Trees in Chichester

Come! Walk through our city. You will be hard pushed to stand, outdoors in any part of our streets and public spaces, and NOT to see a tree. Not always in front of you but, if you turn 360 degrees, there will be a patch of green leaf or brown/grey bark somewhere.

Each tree tells a story, of careful planting or random seed, of space and air and water and time. From our streets, to our parks, our gardens and wild spaces, our urban forest is busy, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Chichester Tree Wardens are volunteers who keep an eye out for trees. Wherever we look, there is something to learn, from seedlings to ancient trees, city centre to rural fringes. We hope you will join us in looking at, and after, trees in Chichester and trees wherever you happen to be.

Once again we are looking forward to taking part in the Festival of Chichester in 2026. We have 2 dates of our own:

  • Explore Trees in Litten Gardens on the evening of Thursday 26th June, sponsored by Chichester Quakers; and
  • "A Tree Odyssey" by Jon Stokes, Director of Trees, Science and Research at The Tree Council, on Tuesday 14th July.

Booking opens with the launch of the full Festival programme in early April when tickets will be available via our page on TicketSource.

If you would like us to support an event you are planning, please get in touch. Our confidence is also growing in devising walks and talks. Or why not treat one or more of us to an informal walk and show us the trees you love? We'd love to hear from you.

Found a problem?

Please let us know! We want you to enjoy our website and will fix problems when we get the chance (and can work out how).

If it's a real-world Chichester tree problem, or query, we will try to suggest an effective way to find the information you need to decide what you would like to do.

Is this website up to date?

Unlikely! Everything we do is done by volunteers and our web editor is only able to update occasionally. We ask for your understanding (and please let us know if you find something that seems particularly overlooked). We include "page updated"/"links checked" information to help to keep track.

Page updated & Links checked: 7th March 2026.
